But then again, if I could afford a quarter mill on a new car, I'd probably spend it -- or a tad more -- on an old car. What was that saying about things being not as good as it was, but better than it will be? Case in point, the original Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing. Next to the word "icon" in the finest dictionary in the finest library in this world, you will find a picture of this automobile.

What a glorious auto. Wouldn't it cost a lot more than 100G though? I agree with the notion though even if it can be painful, a'la my intense love of Triumph Spitfires. And the Jag XKE which was also one of the most beautiful cars ever but didn't actually run as well as a Jag made by Ford.

Counselor, according to wikipedia, examples of the Gullwing are going for $700k. The red one in this post belongs to Jay Leno, who has been known to spend massive coin on cars.
And, you should treat yourself to a Triumph Spit, they're much more sensible a splurge than a Gullwing, and arguably no less iconic. Perhaps when the FRS graduates, or cuts his first gold record.
