Found another picture of my dad's 1955 T-Bird removable hardtop in red. He was always very particular in pointing out to me that the '55, being the first of the breed, was its purest model, without the long rear bumper and ornate spare tire cover of the '56 or the silly and pointless tailfins of the '57. Don't even mention to him the models that came after, which had back seats.
I never saw that car. Dad was 27 then. Already uncompromising. As if he ever wasn't. A few years later I came along, born with a Mustang in the garage, the first of its breed too.
